Documents needed to enter the country

Please be aware that a visa is not required for most passports if the visits are under 90 days. However, you must purchase a tourist card for $12 USD upon arrival.

The card is valid for 90 days. If your passport shows that you were born in El Salvador, this tourist Visa is not necessary.

Currency Accepted in El Salvador

El Salvador officially recognized BitCoin as a currency in June 2021. They currently recognize the US Dollar and BitCoin as legal Tender in the Country.
 
It is best to exchange your currency before travelling to the country to ensure you can pay within it.

Safety in El Salvador

Please be aware that El Salvador has the highest homicide rates in the world. To ensure your safety, follow some tips to enjoy your trip.
  • Registered taxi companies are okay to use. If you’re unsure which are registered, most hotels will have a list of companies approved as safe and legitimate.
  • Avoid travelling alone, hide valuables, don’t carry too much money, and be careful when withdrawing money from the ATM.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and try not to explore by yourself after dark.
